Athens Montessori School: Jan 16These very well behaved, smart kids shared an afternoon with a Toucan, 2 Amazons, 2 Caiques, a pair of Eclectus, a Macaw and held Carly, an Umbrella Cockatoo. We spent the afternoon talking about parrots both as pets and as wild species. When it was time to leave they gifted us with paper towels, clorox wet wipes, a bottle of cleaner and a generous donation we are using to build a free flight for the birds.

Something special Dec 5 2011- Our birds share the gift of life
Just
after noon the first call came from our vet. Followed shortly by a call
from a vet at the UGA Veterinarian Hospital. A parrot was in need
of blood. Could we help them?
Two of our flock were prime donors. Species specific and very healthy. Kahala & Carly were put into carriers and we were on our way, arriving at the small animal hospital around
2 pm. We were "introduced" to the needy parrot while the staff set up.
Kahala was first to donate. The transfusion of Kahala's blood was started as Carly was being prepped. Her blood draw went just as smooth as Kahala's. Both our birds were given fluids and put back into the carriers. Once home they were placed back into their cages for some relaxation and quiet time.
Both birds took this all in stride and I'd have to guess they were telling the rest of the flock what a wonderful thing they had done for another bird.
We received a heart felt thank-you call the next evening from the owner of that other bird. He kept saying I saved his bird's life. Fact is I did nothing. It was all Carly & Kahala. There is a nice rumor going around the aviary that Carly and Kahala are saying "We just paid it forward".
